Christopher Brasher reports on how the BBC is preparing to televise a climb of the Old Man of Hoy - the celebrated sandstone pinnacle which towers 450 feet over the waters of the Pentland Firth. Over three days the apparently unscalable peak will finally be climbed, by three two-man teams composed of Britain's finest climbers - Joe Brown and Ian McNaught-Davis, Chris Bonington and Tom Patey, and Dougal Haston and Pete Crew. It promises to be one of the most difficult climbs ever undertaken, and one of the most ambitious outside broadcasts the BBC has ever filmed. This is a behind the scenes look at how the BBC made televising the event a reality. Clip taken from He Who Dares: The Old Man and the Climbers, originally broadcast on BBC One, 7 July, 1967.
