Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund: The Movie

This is a film I produced in collaboration with Luke Ohlson/7 Cinema about a novel approach to administering environmental improvement project funds with a community centric approach. The Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF) was an environmental grant program of the New York State Office of the Attorney General and Department of Environmental Conservation. GCEF was created from monies obtained by the State of New York through a settlement with ExxonMobil over its Greenpoint oil spill. By the time of its conclusion in 2024, the program awarded 77 grants totaling over $18 million and leveraged an additional $50.4 million in matching contributions from grantees, bringing GCEF’s total investment in improving Greenpoint’s environment to over $68 million. This short film details the GCEF program’s history, accomplishments, and legacy as told by members of the Greenpoint community itself.
