Lochnagar Munro by MTB | An Epic Adventure Ride Down a Waterfall Path! Scotland

Mountain biking a Munro on the Lochnagar mtb loop via the Waterfall descent (Glas Allt Shiel) above Loch Muick in Cairngorms, Scotland. Could this be the best munro to ride on a mtb?! Our MTB route went to the summit of Lochnagar between Ballater and Braemar to ride a long technical descent down a waterfall path to the base of Loch Muick. Some of the best mountain biking in Scotland and we were very glad we were on full suspension enduro bikes!! This mtb route in the Cairngorms National Park is around 23km and 1000m of elevation, starting from the Spittal of Muick car park. There are actually five munros in a circuit (Lochnagar 5) that many people walk in this area. Even from Lochnagar there is an alternative descent down the back towards Braemar via Glen Callater however having heard the Waterfall was so good we went for that one! This is probably up there with the longest vertical UK MTB descent I've ridden and one of the most technical! Strava link:   / strava   We pedalled, pushed and hike a bike'd our way to the top of the munro, starting via a landrover track then moving onto singletrack and some hard staircase hike a bike sections. The reward was there at the top though with the best views and raw rugged scenery. The Cairngorms really is spectacular. The descent was extremely technical with lots of staircases, waterbars, drainage ditches, tight corners with rock compressions... and so on! A really hard trail down but with plenty adrenaline! There are easier munros or mountains you can do on a bike (when I say easier they still demand a lot!) but if you fancy a challenge then this is one to do! Having done Torridon and Kinlochleven routes recently, this one definitely took the medal for us as the best descent! Can't beat finishing a ride and being able to go for a swim in the loch! Of course, a couple of crashes were had and lots of laughs! A ride to remember and hope some people will enjoy it too after sharing this!
