Driving Route 66, you could experience sunset cruises past Chicago’s skyscrapers, minor-league baseball games, Vegas helicopter tours and LA by Cadillac. You might already have an idea in your mind of what driving the Mother Road would be like. Retro motels, 1950s diners, all-American small towns and oversized objects all line the route. But there’s also much more to it, as you can see in our video, which was captured by our USA specialists on their recent trip. The landscapes change from seemingly endless crop fields to red rock formations, pine forests and dusty deserts scattered with cacti. You can explore the history of the route and the places it passes through, including Abraham Lincoln’s former home and St Louis’ Budweiser factory. And, in the southwest, you can learn more about American Indian culture. While our video shows highlights from the whole route, it’s possible to pick one or two sections to explore in-depth. You might like to concentrate on the history, architecture and Americana towards the beginning of the route, or focus on the last stretch, making detours to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas before arriving in LA via the Mojave Desert.
