Surya/Sun moves from the southeast to the northeast during this time. Ratha Saptami is symbolic of the change of season to spring and the start of the harvesting season. For most Indian farmers, it is an auspicious beginning of the New harvest Year. This is the day that Surya was born to sage Kashyapa and his wife Adithi. We worship Lord Suryanarayana for better health and well-being as he is called “Aarogya and Aishwarya Datha”. Surya is worshipped early in the morning while fresh sunrays emerge. It is believed and scientifically also it is recommended and proven that exposure to fresh sunrays rejuvenate energy, and purify the mind and body. Chanting ‘Gayatri Mantra’ and reciting ‘Surya Sahasranaam’, ‘Adityahridayam’ or ‘Suryashtakam’ or is considered very auspicious on this day. The festivities are very well-known in the Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple with special puja arrangements. Ratha Saptami holds special significance in the Indian states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
