PERFORMANCE TIPS : This arrangement would work well in live performance, although it includes a number of differences from the bass part in Paul Simon's version. The biggest of these is the slap solo in bar 49, which was originally created by playing a recorded sample backwards - here it is notated to be played normally. Your slap playing should sound energetic and vital throughout, and the repeated semiquavers, especially at the chorus, will require technical precision. The slides at the coda should be 'vocal' and expressive. The indication in bar 34 of the letter 'H' means hammer-on - this is the left hand hammering on to the strings to make a percusive sound. Later, in bar 50, it indicates an actual pitch which is produced with just the left hand hammering on to the string. 'S' means strum, see the notes for 'Tommy the Cat'
