Saturday 25 January 2025 at 3:00 pm IST Compassion is imbedded in our nature. It is a quality that fosters care and loving kindness. It opens the heart, and nourishes both oneself and others. We can access this quality of mind by finding connection within ourselves and in relation to others. Compassion is a quality that is praised by Chandrakirti at the beginning of the “Supplement to the Middle Way.” He did this to indicate that great compassion is the root of all vehicles: the great vehicle of the bodhisattva and the lesser vehicles of the hearers and solitary realizers. We will use Chandrakirti’s praise to compassion to learn about the qualities of compassion. We will dive into the question how to join our compassion with a correct understanding of both ultimate and conventional reality. Our understanding will help us to deepen the quality of our compassion and to anchor it in reality. Developing compassion can come with obstacles and confusion. In the second session there will be time to discuss any questions and queries you have with respect to developing compassion. About the teacher Venerable Lhundup Jamyang began her studies in Tibetan Buddhism at Tushita Meditation Center in Dharamsala in 1997. It was here that she realized she had a strong connection with Lama Zopa Rinpoche. In 2000, she took ordination in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition at Kopan, after which she went to Australia to study the 5-year Basic Program at Chenrezig Institute. After completion she went to Buddha House, Adelaide, in 2007. where she worked as SPC and teacher. In 2009 Lama Zopa Rinpoche advised her to study the Madhyamakavatara, which was taught as part of the Masters Program at Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa, Italy. She completed the MP at the beginning of 2017, including the one-year retreat requirement. She is co-writer of the MP study-manual for the Madhyamakavatara. Over the years, Venerable Jamyang has received a wealth of authentic teachings from amazing teachers such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Khensur Tashi Tsering, Khensur Jampa Tegchok, Geshe Jampa Gelek and many more. She has taught and led retreats for many years in Australia, New Zealand, and in the last 5 years primarily at Tushita Meditation Center and Thosamling in Dharamsala, India. She is currently serving as teaching assistant for the ongoing 7-years Masters Program at Nalanda Monastery, France. Venerable Jamyang generously shares what she has learned over the past three decades. In her classes, she emphasizes the connection between Buddhist philosophy and practice.
