Total floor area ~400,000 sq m, comprising super‑grade offices, serviced apartments, and a shopping mall . I learned all this later. First time in? No data—just lost. ——— From the metro exit, disorientation began. Escalator up: mall. Another escalator: lobby. Another elevator: corridor. Every space familiar yet completely different. The 16‑meter‑high lobby feels grand —then a turn leads to narrow hallways. 170‑meter tower, 36 office floors, retail floors 1–4, sky garden on 5, offices above . Numbers circulate in the mind, but the body can‘t navigate. Like Inception’s impossible stairs—going up, yet perhaps原地踏步. Like a Bourne chase scene—corridors leading to corridors, turns promising more turns. ——— Two decades of rapid urbanization—countless office towers across Chinese cities. Spaces like this are probably common. Hong Kong cinema’s golden age featured many underground garage chase scenes—high urbanization makes such spaces inevitable. 2023: Guangdong Financial High‑tech Zone hosts 1,800+ financial institutions, over 100,000 employees . They navigate this building daily. First‑timers? We get lost. ——— Slow down, see the world—discover a building‘s character. From metro exit to friend’s office: 20 minutes. Three security guards asked. Eight turns. Two wrong elevators. Friend‘s WeChat voice messages: “Where are you? Still looking? I’ll come down.” But the journey—memorable. Identical corridors. Indistinguishable floors. Permanently under‑repair signs. They shape this building‘s personality. ——— Where do we begin to understand a building? With its functions—underground metro connection, 16‑meter lobby, 170‑meter height.
