Wine Review: Chateau Seraphine Pomerol 2023 (en-primeur sample)

Today's tasting again comes from Bordeaux and the en-primeurs. For this video Wine-Searcher's Wine Director David Allen MW visits the cellars of Chateau Seraphine just outside Libourne to taste a barrel sample of their 2023 wine. Having sold his previous estate Château de Sours to Alibaba founder Jack Ma in 2016, Martin Krajewski purchased the tiny Chateau Seraphine in Pomerol. Martin immediately set about rebuilding the cellars and the house, before turning his attention to the vineyards where they pulled out and replanted about 75% of the 2.2 hectare property's vines. The vineyards are in two plots, one with sandy topsoil over clay and the other with areas of gravel and sand with gravel. The vineyards are worked in as eco-friendly a way as possible although they have no certification. The family do not own a tractor and the land is worked by horse. Martin's daughter Charlotte is a highly experienced winemaker who has worked at top estates throughout the world, Learning her trade in South Africa at Groot Constantia, Working for Trinity Hill and Elephant Hill New Zealand and Tyrells in Australia. Charlotte has assumed the role of technical director for both Chateau Seraphine in Pomerol and Clos Cantenac in Saint Emilion - which the family also owns.
