Soon after embarking on a career as record producer in 1966, record retailer and jukebox businessman Karl ‘J.J.’ Johnson, enjoyed a series of significant Jamaican hits with a number of local artists, notably the Rulers and Carl Dawkins. The hits continued throughout the Rocksteady & early Reggae eras on his Sir J. J. and JJ Records labels from his Kingston shop (on Orange Street, next door to Beverley's Records). Sadly it would all come to end when he was shot to death at this very location in 1972. “That’s My Best Producer.
