5 tips for visiting Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara 1. Marietas Islands and Hidden beach/ Playa del Amor, (make a reservation in advance). Actually, we haven't visited those places although really wanted to. Playa del Amor, the “beach of love” more typically called the Hidden Beach, is a secluded sandy land on one of the islands that make up Marietas Islands National Park. Make sure to reserve a tour in advance and be aware that there are no tours organized on Mondays and Tuesdays (that is why we didnt have a chance). 2. Sunsets in Puerto Vallarta. It is not a standard phrase, seriously, they are gorgeous. Spend the evening on the beach, enjoy food, music and a sunset. Our personally favorite restaurant was El Barracuda. 3. Tequila town and Jose Cuervo train. The oldest tequila distilery. If you want to have a real tequila experience, book a Jose Cuervo train trip enjoy tequila on the way. Jose Cuervo Express travels across agave landscape. The departures are only on Saturdays and the train departs from Guadalajara. Again, we were in Tequila/Guadalajara on a wrong day and couldnt book this tour. We just toom an Uber and went to Tequila by ourselves. We went straight to Fabrica La Rojena and booked a tour there. 4. Mariachi in Guadalajara and Plaza de los Mariachis. Jalisco state is very famous for mariachi music. You can indeed meet them anywhere: in the squares, cafes, restaurants, on the streets. Cheerful and nice experience. 5. Local food you can't miss to try in Jalisco: tacos de barbacoa (sold only in the morning as a good cure after tequila tour), tacos pierne, tortas ahogadas (Guadalajara's most iconic drowned sandwich, stuffed with fried pork before being drenched in a spicy tomato chili sauce and served with avocado, onions, and radishes), tacos birria (tacos with goat meat). For all typical dishes make sure to pay a visit to one of the local markets.
