Previous Zone: Angel Island Zone Next Zone: X-Zone You might notice this video is pretty long. If you're wondering, no Dimps didn't mess up and put 8 Chaos Emeralds into this game. There is only one Special Stage here, and it's in Cosmic Angel. The reason why this video is long is because Egg Rocket Act 1 is exceptionally long. So long, in fact, that the 10-minute time limit is done away with just for this Act, instead giving you three countdowns, each from 5 minutes. While you can consider Egg Rocket and Cosmic Angel as two separate one-Act Zones, there are a few things that sugget it's a standard two-Act Zone, with each Act taking a different name. The most obvious reason is that Egg Rocket leads directly to Cosmic Angel. Also, Cosmic Angel's music is a remix of Egg Rocket's. Finally, and most compelling, is that Cosmic Angel's title card indicates it's an Act 2. There's some pretty shoddy enemy placement in these two stages. You'll see a lot of Badniks, if not most of them, placed in such a way that you're speeding forward or flying through the air and crash headfirst into them. This has, regrettably, been an issue that Dimps has huge trouble solving, as this sort of enemy placement is present in all of the other Sonic handhelds, as well as Sonic 4. (That being said, it's less of a problem in Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure due to the boost.) There's also some pretty clever enemy placement too, on the other hand. The two new Badniks here are a floating octopus thing that shoots energy balls downward and a spinning crystal that shoots energy balls forward. Some, especially in Cosmic Angel, are placed where your mobility is reduced or you can't attack (such as coming off of springs). The last Special Stage is located in Cosmic Angel. This IS located near the end, even if I don't take long to get there, as Cosmic Angel is actually a somewhat short stage. You may notice that the orange trick circles are sometimes placed right behind a 2x2 square formation of bombs. This is what holding A to boost is for: It reduces the size of your hurtbox so you can slip past those bombs, but because you're moving faster, your timing window to do the trick is smaller. This is the only Special Stage where this technique is necessary--there are 3 orange circles here, so 45 of your Rings will be coming from them, almost a quarter of your quota. The boss of this stage is the Egg Snake. Dr. Eggman has prepared a bouncy rope that his machine slides left and right along. One side is spiked, and the other has the cockpit. To flip it over, do a strong jump next to Eggman. This is pretty hard, of course, as he's moving and it's very easy to collide with him as you're trying to jump near him. After a little while, Eggman will fire three projectiles. All of them are in the direction of wherever you are when he fires, but they move slowly so it's likely that you'd accidentally jump onto one. After the sixh hit, Eggman will slide back and forth rapidly for a short while, hoping to catch you off guard. Personally, this is one of the hardest bosses in the game, or maybe it's just because I'm using Amy here. Up next, I'll be putting Knuckles through the X-Zone, which is an unusual boss rush and then the last standard boss in the game.
