RLMG, a design firm based in Watertown, MA, has been designing media for museums and other public spaces since 2011. About 10 years after founding the company, RLMG’s previous owner started thinking about what would happen to the business after him and realized that he already had a willing buyer right under his nose: his employees. They had already put in a lot of energy into making the business successful, so it made sense. Once the option of transitioning the business to an employee-owned cooperative was presented to RLMG’s staff, nearly all of the firm’s 40 employees voted to join the cooperative, bringing together the ideas and unique skill sets of different ages and backgrounds. This video is brought to you by the Northeast Transition Initiative (NETI), a partnership of non-profit transition advisors and community development lenders who share the goal of supporting small business owners in planning their exit strategy and raising awareness of employee ownership. The Cooperative Development Institute is a proud partner of NETI. Learn more about NETI by visiting https://ownershiptransition.org/ Learn more about RLMG by visiting https://rlmg.com/
