Date filmed: 16/07/2021 Video filmed at 09:57 Route: Esk Valley Line Between Nunthorpe and Great Ayton Stations Location: Morton Carr Lane, Nunthorpe Trains: Class 156 (Northern) - 0:52 Whitby ➡ Middlesborough A formerly un-gated level crossing with half barriers located on a narrow no-through road just outside of Middlesbrough. The road surface on approach to this level crossing from either side is rather rough and bumpy, and very little road traffic uses this level crossing as a result. At the time of filming, the level crossing is used by only sixteen trains per day, which may mean that the trains per vehicles ratio here is fairly equal. Half barriers were installed here on the very last day of January 2015 when there were previously no barriers at all here, and this level crossing still remains protected by red/white drivers' crossing indicators and level crossing floodlights, each to prove that the level crossing is activating and working as it should to approaching train drivers. A very scenic and pretty view onto the North Yorkshire moors is seen from this level crossing. I have included this as a cut-away clip at the start of this video as the position of the sun made it almost impossible to get a decent video of the level crossing from the side looking onto the edge of the Moors. A group of runners were not too best pleased that they got caught at the crossing as the train came. As can also be heard, one of the alarms here is very faulty. Thanks for watching!
