Date filmed: Saturday the 28th of December 2024 Videos filmed between 12:47 and 13:01 Route: West Anglia Main Line (WAML) Between Cheshunt (CHN) and Broxbourne (BXB) Stations Crossing type: Automatic Half Barrier Crossing (AHBC) Filming location: Wharf Road, Wormley (EN10 6HZ) A half-barrier level crossing found at the edge of Wormley, located in the Lea Valley between Cheshunt and Broxbourne. It's on a road which chiefly leads into the top end of the Lea Valley Country Park, but can be a sketchy location at times. It's on the very busy southern 'Lea Valley Line' section of the West Anglia Main Line, and with a rough number of 378 trains per day according to Network Rail, is the busiest half-barrier level crossing anywhere in the UK in terms of trains! Bear in mind, everything you see here happened within the space of 15 minutes, although there was about a 10-15 minute wait for the next train after the last train due to how they were timetabled on this day. Very often, the crossing is specially monitored by a safety team, who occupy a van which often sits in one of the lay-by's near the crossing. Bodily, the crossing dates back to re-signalling in 2003, and one 'SPX Fluid Power' branded barrier even remains from the original installation, although the E2S 'Appello' alarms and LED wigwags are newer than that as is the other barrier. Two LED pedestrian signals at the exit-sides are also quite a new addition here. An amount of layout-related interest is provided by some of these LED wigwags sitting at intriguing angles, and the fact that these 'Mk.1' LED's can have a fair amount of individuality.
