Date filmed: Saturday the 28th of December 2024 Videos filmed between 11:13 and 11:57 Route: West Anglia Main Line (WAML) Cheshunt (CHN) Station Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: Windmill Lane, Cheshunt (EN8 9AQ) A well-known level crossing on Windmill Lane in Cheshunt, just to the north of the M25 in Hertfordshire. Despite the town itself not giving brilliant impressions, this level crossing is in a pretty nice spot on a fairly quiet road at the edge of the extensive Lea Valley Country Park, although the footbridge pedestrians can use to skip the waits here is an absolute monstrosity. Once again, this level crossing is on an incredibly busy section of the West Anglia Main Line, and as many as thirteen different trains can be seen throughout this slightly longer than usual video. London Overground services on the Weaver Line also use a 'bay' platform as this is their northernmost calling point, and they don't use this crossing as it's at the other end of the station. There are a number of paid car parks to use if travelling by car, though anywhere that both isn't tariffed and usable by the public is very hard to find, so bear this in mind if this is how you're planning to get here. The level crossing here almost feels a bit like a Shrinky-dink version of the one at St. Margarets Station set-up wise, and was installed in its current CCTV-monitored form in 2003 during re-signalling, controlled from London Liverpool Street's control centre. Both alarms, the barriers, and LED wigwags are newer than that, however, and the alarms are a pretty decent volume for this crossing's environment. Despite the urban nature of the town, the shot directly across the crossing looking east is almost picturesque (ignoring that footbridge). I hope you enjoy this video!
