Borough: London Borough of Enfield Date filmed: Saturday the 28th of December 2024 Videos filmed between 09:36 and 10:02 Route: West Anglia Main Line (WAML) Brimsdown (BMD) Station Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: Green Street, Enfield (EN3 7SH) A level crossing located on a fairly busy residential street next to Brimsdown Railway Station in Enfield, North London, on the very busy West Anglia Main Line (Lea Valley Line section) which takes trains north towards Hertford, Stansted Airport, and Cambridge. In its current form (bar newer LED wigwags and barriers), the crossing dates back to 2002 and is controlled by a crossing keeper at Liverpool Street's Intergrated Electronic Control Centre. The alarm volume here is okay for its environment despite being a little on the quiet side, and one alarm oddly points away from the crossing entirely. The line speed over this crossing is 80mph for trains heading towards London and 85mph for trains heading away, and with more fast trains than stoppers here, trains carry quite a bit of speed through here on this incredibly busy two-track line. A handy way of predicting these crossings' activation times on this line is by watching for the route to be set over them through Open Train Times (shown as a green line past a red signal), and the crossing will activate shortly afterwards, as this is the trigger which likely turns on the crossing CCTV for the crossing keeper to lower and watch over it. This video was taken fairly early on a Saturday Morning during the awkward period between Christmas and New Year, so the area was reasonably quiet. There were engineering works at either end of the West Anglia Main Line, yet Greater Anglia managed to retain a punctual, intensive service between Stratford and Tottenham Hale, and Hertford East, Stansted Airport, and Audley End. Top work! I hope you enjoy these videos!
