Alternative title 'Liebestraum nach dem Balle' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alfons Czibulka (1842-94) was a Hungarian-born composer who became a bandmaster in the Austrian army (1866-87 - with various regiments). He wrote mainly operettas and dance music, and is particularly remembered for the Stéphanie-Gavotte, dedicated to the Belgian princess upon her engagement to Archduke Rudolph in 1880. I would guess that this piece - 'Dream of love after the ball' - comes from around the same time. The love theme seems to interrupt the waltz of the ball, which then returns (maybe as the dreamer wakes) and dies away. A viewer has kindly provided the following information in a comment on this video: "I first heard this melody in "The White Cliffs of Dover" with Irene Dunne and adored it. It was also briefly used in "The Great Caruso". One more film to add to the list: "On Moonlight Bay" with Doris Day and Gordon McCrea. Hollywood seemed to like using this melody to express bittersweet, wistful romance in the movies. It was most appealing!"
