A clause included in his contract with the MLS club stated that he would later be able to buy the rights to an expansion team for $25m, a significant discount from the normal fee of $150m. Beckham’s vision was in place. In the years to come he gradually set about making his dream a reality, laying the foundations for a new franchise. It took patience, but in March 2020, his Inter Miami team finally took to the pitch for their first ever MLS match.
