Don't Miss Leptospirosis in Post-Flood OPDs! 🌧️ Heavy rains often bring a surge of fever cases, and while Dengue is top-of-mind, let's not forget about Leptospirosis, especially in flood-affected regions! Key Clinical Pearls: ✔️ Exposure History: Crucial hint! Patients often report wading through dirty or stagnant water, sometimes barefoot. ✔️ Symptom Overlap: High-grade fever, severe headache, and intense body aches (myalgia) can mimic Dengue. ✔️ Red Flag Sign: Look for conjunctival suffusion (red, watery eyes) – a strong indicator for Leptospirosis! ✔️ Lab Clues: You might see mildly elevated SGOT/SGPT, mild thrombocytopenia, non-oliguric AKI, and hypokalemia. ✔️ Simple Treatment: Early diagnosis is key! Oral Doxycycline (100mg BD for 14 days) or IV Ceftriaxone (2g OD) for severe cases. Let's ensure we add Leptospirosis to our differential diagnosis, especially in these challenging times.
