Re Rigging SERENITY My Lyle Hess 24

We launched our Lyle Hess 24' Gaff Cutter SERENITY (sister ship to RENEGADE/SERAFFYN) in 2007 but didn't have the mast in until 2010. We've sailed her on Sydney Harbour and offshore between Jervis Bay and Lake Macquarie since then, but in 2025 with the hand-spliced Stainless Steel wire turning 15 years old we decided to renew it. We took the opportunity of having the mast out to strip the varnish and start again, and then I spliced a complete set of standing rigging in 7x7 Stainless Steel. I show how I spliced the wire, and how I parcelled and served it semi-traditionally, ie using some modern materials. I also leathered the soft eyes at the upper ends of 5 of the stays and show how they were sewn on. SERENITY now has new running rigging as well and is ready to take on harbours and oceans once more.
