I snagged this off eBay for around $17, with shipping, because I really like the combination squares without a scribe and bubble vial. It needed a little TLC so I added it to the restoration list. Evapo-Rust was nice enough to send me a 3.5 gallon of their product to try out. Needless to say I was very impressed with how it worked and I do recommend this product based on my experience. Thanks for watching! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Intro: For this weeks video I thought I’d try to restore this vintage combination square made by the Union Tool Company. I am not a big fan of combination squares that have a bubble vial or scribe built into the head so when I found this I knew I wanted it. Now I’m not using citric acid for this restoration either. Evapo-Rust was nice enough to send me their product so I’m going to give that a whirl for this restoration. All right enough of me talking…let’s get on with the video. Outro: And here we have the finished combination square. As you can see I took the paint off the sides with some denatured alcohol to give it the original two-tone look. I thought about leaving it painted but I opted against that and I’m glad I did. Overall I am very pleased with how the square head turned out. I have no complaints about my choice of paint color and the satin lacquer gave it a nice matte finish like I wanted.
