In this episode we finally get the 1973 MkIII MG Midget out for a shake-down drive after changing the oils. Lots of rain about at the moment so had to pick our window wisely; the rain also comes through on some of the audio in this episode, so sorry about the background ‘hissing’. Great fun to be out on the roads in the Midget again in some lovely driving weather; but unfortunately, a slipping fan belt emerges again. We realise we didn’t check the carburettor dashpot oil levels when we changed the oil, so check those and top up using a syringe for a mess-free top-up method. Investigations into the slipping fan belt clear the water pump as a culprit (not starting to seize) but do identify a broken alternator mounting pedestal; so we set about effecting a temporary repair until we can order the correct replacement part: https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/pedesta... Then we discover that we have likely had the wrong fan belt size on when we investigate the alternator adjustment mechanism. Checking the Moss-Europe parts catalogue identifies three sizes for the Mk iii Midget: https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/water-p... So, we end up not fixing our problems and ordering more parts; including a horn which we inadvertently diagnose one of the two-tone horns was not working.
