Car: 1996 Honda EK Civic, K24A 225HP N/A Driver : Mark Seguna Best recorded time of the day : 1:34.15 Date 07/10/2023, 3:15PM 18° Dry Tyres - Yokohama Advan A050 Medium - 245/40/17 (F) 215/45/17 (R) After missing last years event, this year i made sure i was able to attend Honda Nationals @ Winton Motor Raceway in country Victoria. It was a 6 Hour drive to the track from home in Sydney. To make the most of the long distance travel, we also attended a test and tune track day on the Friday before Honda Nationals. This allowed myself to get acquainted with the track and build confidence for the event. This was the first time i had driven a different track in the Honda since its purchase. Arriving a little late for the test and tune day, we missed the first 2 sessions. Finally we got out in the third session, and the car was all good. However in the 4th session, the car developed a niggling misfire issue which the boys from BYP Racing had diagnosed and repaired in no time. A cut wire within a connector the culprit. This however meant i did not get clean running in the 4th and 5th sessions of the day. With the issue fixed, the car was on song and i got some much needed practice in the 6th and 7th sessions finishing the day with a 1:36.40 lap time. A bit disappointed, as my goal was a 1:35 for the weekend. I had to redeem myself during the Honda Nationals event. First session for Honda Nationals i went out and just get used to everything again and warm up the tyres. 1:42 lap banked. Nothing spectacular. Second session, i put down a 1:36.83. Kim my pit crew suggested we stiffen up the rear suspension and i was having trouble with understeer on this tight and technical track. After the adjustments the car was immediately better with rotation into the corners and in the third session put down a 1:34.8 - 2 Seconds faster than previous best time! Fourth session was another 1:34.8. Fifth Session went out and PB 1:34.15 ! I was very happy and to be very close to the 1:43s. Optimal was showing at 1:33.15 - there was 1 second to gain on my PB lap. 6th and Final Session - 1:34.16 - i could not better the times. Though how was that for consistency! I was happy overall as i bettered what i set out to do. Watching over the footage now at home i can see so many places to make up the time and going over the data has helped me understand where i was going wrong. I don't know when i will be back any time soon, as the travel to and from the track is a killer, but there is easily potential for this car to do 1:32s and faster at this track. The only thing i need to do so is a driver mod! Thank You to everyone who helped me over the weekend, especially Kim who was my pit crew for the weekend, you really helped me a lot with car preparation and just the little things to make the weekend go smoother, and also BYP Racing Benny Tran and Jimmy "Supercoach" Tran for all their help and assistance with prepping the car and sorting out any issues with it, and the words of encouragement. Thanks to BT Motorsport for the alignments and for lending me the trailer to get the car down to the track.
