Homemade Churros Recipe Ingredients: 250g water 250g all-purpose flour 60g butter 30g sugar 10g salt 1 tsp vanilla essence 2 eggs Optional: 1/2 tsp baking soda (for a lighter texture) Oil for frying (preferably light soybean oil) 1/2 cup caster sugar (for coating) 1 tbsp cinnamon powder (for coating) Instructions: Prepare the Dough: In a saucepan, bring 250g of water to a boil. Add butter, sugar, and salt, stirring until melted and combined. Reduce heat and add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously until a dough forms. Continue mixing until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and let the dough cool for a few minutes. Incorporate Eggs & Flavoring: Once the dough has cooled slightly, add vanilla essence. Crack in one egg at a time, mixing well after each addition to avoid scrambling. If using, add baking soda for extra lightness. Continue mixing until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Prepare for Frying: Heat oil in a deep frying pan to about 170°C (medium-high heat). Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle. Frying the Churros: Pipe strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting them off with scissors. Fry until golden brown and crisp, turning as needed. Remove and drain on paper towels. Coating & Serving: Mix caster sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Toss warm churros in the mixture to coat evenly. Serve immediately with coffee or chocolate sauce.
