In December I traveled back to São Paulo for my friend Igor’s event, Autoconcept BR, a unique automotive gathering by the lake in Interlagos, near the legendary F1 circuit. The weekend started at Shibuya Garage, a private workshop known for building exclusive bikes and tuning some of the wildest cars in Brazil. Flame-throwing builds, neon color combinations, huge wheels, air suspension systems made for São Paulo’s rough streets — the scene is bold and unapologetic. What makes it special? Import taxes in Brazil are extremely high, so many enthusiasts build parts themselves or find creative alternatives. You’ll see German cars, especially VW models, modified with a level of individuality we rarely see in Europe. I was invited as part of the international press jury to select the Top 10 cars of the show. Judging craftsmanship, originality and execution wasn’t easy. A black Subaru took the win. Beyond the cars, it felt like a festival: BBQ, loud music, dancing, and some of the warmest people I’ve met. We even visited a secret garage hidden in the favelas, filled with R34 Skylines, McLarens, Ferraris — and a 1:1 rebuilt Iron Man movie set. Brazil’s car scene may be under the radar. But it’s raw, creative, and deeply driven by community. Cars live from culture. And culture lives from community. Follow on IG Ronni Strauss: https://www.instagram.com/itsastrauss...
