Back at the sawmill on a beautiful Sunday in the high 70s — even if the ground is still a muddy mess. A customer brought us a “maple” log… but I had my doubts. It looked more like sweetgum to me. Either way, both woods can make beautiful lumber, so we decided to cut it and find out. Before it ever hit the mill, we had to check for metal. The customer wasn’t sure about barbed wire, and if you’ve been around long enough, you know that’s a real risk. I grabbed the bobcat, cleaned up the yard (trying not to get stuck in the mud), and scanned the log with my gold spot metal detector. Sure enough… we found wire. Once we were clear, it was time to load it onto the sawmill and test out the new backstops I built in the last video.
