Back in 2022, I was enjoying my third trip during the Covid era... and, suffice it to say, I came down with Covid shortly after leaving Bilbao for France. Luckily, I persevered through it but it meant I was "diseased" for the balance of the trip. Anyhow, I had left the beautiful town of Aguero in Aragon and needed an intermediate destination which wound up being Jaca. It is a pretty smaller city and I should have allocated more time there! The Hotel Mur had some unique decor! A bus carried me the next day through Pamplona and into Bilbao. There is a very convenient streetcar from the main bus station that heads all of the way to Plaza Arenal where I disembarked as I was staying in the "Casco Antinguo". After dropping off my things, I strolled across the El Ensanche neighborhood, winding up at the Bilbao Guggenheim. It is a one-of-a-kind structure built by Frank Gehry and now an unmistakable feature of Bilbao. Nearby, one finds "the Puppy" structure which is adorned with flowers and another sculpture resembling a huge spider. The following day, I head up to the Arantxa Viewpoint which affords great panoramas of the city boxed in by hills on all sides. There is also a significant amount of greenery to enjoy up there (and spring was just beginning on the hills of Bilbao). Finally, St. Sebastian had a daffodil walk like no other. I suppose they return every year. What a sight! The songs here are by Basque singer Amaia Montero. She's singing solo here but is the amazing singer from the group La Oreja de Van Gogh. Enjoy!
