Third Coast Jazz Ensemble were a short lived jazz ensemble group that formed in Nashville, TN. during the 1990s. Not much information about this group themselves can be found online, but according to the CD booklet, Third Coast Jazz Ensemble consisted of the following people: Johnathon Ball, Fred Bogert, Tobias Cain, Mark Harris, Jim Hoke, Sam Levine, Terrence Wintersmith, Lori Mechem, Michael Morris and Dave Pomeroy. They released one (although it was said to be two as the Self-titled album is claimed to also be called "Vol. 2 - Third Coast Jazz") album in 1997 by Artifex Records. And while they didn't become big, it was their sole album released to encourage jazz listeners to listen a jazz band from the South. Here is a quote from the executive producer of this album, which proves that point: "Over the last several years, a quiet mass exodus has been taking place. Some of the nation's most gifted composers and musicians have bid adieu to the harried pace and confines of Los Angeles and New York City settling into a much more serene and peaceful lifestyle that is indicative of the South. This shifting of musical forces has resulted in the creation of a musical "third coast". Today, Nashville, Tennessee is a hotbed of creative activity. Long associated with a singular genre of music eminating from its world class recording facilities, the new Nashville of the nineties has come alive offering a vast popourri of musical styles. Third Coast Jazz Ensemble offers up to the listener the smoothest jazz sounds now coming from the city known as the 'Athens of the South'." Terry Ayers, Executive Producer, 1997. This time I have chosen "Minha Alma", another track that was featured on Music Choice Contemporary Instrumentals. Enjoy!
