They can teach us a thing or two about funding. I've felt for a long time that America's historic #streetcars deserve more attention, especially when considering the current struggles to build adequate transit in the US and Canada. It's amazing how such comprehensive systems emerged on their own, largely driven by private actors who weren't receiving massive subsidies. Multiply that across pretty much every city across the US? That's a cool story :^) I also wanted to call this video "the shortcomings of traditional and P3 #procurement models for public transit infrastructure", but that would literally drive negative clicks 🤡 And finally - in case it wasn’t clear enough: this video isn’t arguing for the privatisation of transit. It’s about studying an era when transit was an attractive enough investment to be driven by for-profit companies, then seeing what we can learn from that to make transit more financially palatable today.
