The "Hirabami," a Leviathan introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds, exhibits an unusual and serpentine profile that sets it apart from others of its kind. Cloaked in dark purple scales laced with cool cyan hues, its lithe, elongated body evokes the silhouette of a sea serpent—yet it navigates the air, not water. Its head tapers into a sharp point, covered in overlapping segmented plating, while its lower jaw can split cleanly into two halves, revealing a vividly colored maw. Two small, unblinking white eyes devoid of pupils add to its eerie presence. Flowing from either side of its head is a broad membrane that runs down its neck and ends at the shoulders. This sail-like structure allows it to levitate effortlessly, manipulating wind currents to suspend itself in midair—an ability reminiscent of Elder Dragons like Ibushi. While airborne, it maintains fluid movement and can maneuver across the battlefield with deceptive grace. Its forelimbs bear a curved fin structure from the elbow to the hand, ending in single, hooked claws, while its hind legs are comparatively small, terminating in broad, padded feet that provide stability on rough terrain. Instead of wings, it relies on the wind-catching membrane along its neck and body to maintain altitude. Its tail, initially slender, thickens near the end and splits into multiple pairs of grasping claws, enabling it to hang from rock arches or cave ceilings for ambushes or evasive tactics. These appendages also play a central role in its behavior, with the tail capable of being broken up to five times—the most of any monster part in the series—each break diminishing its maneuverability and aerial dominance. Combat encounters are marked by a strange elegance. Its primary ranged attack involves spitting icy projectiles from its glowing mouth, capable of freezing hunters in place. These sudden freezes can leave even seasoned hunters vulnerable to follow-up strikes. In close quarters, Hirabami strikes with slicing arcs from its sickle-shaped claws or lashes with its segmented tail. Its mobility—both horizontal and vertical—forces opponents to adapt quickly or risk being outflanked. Though solitary at times, individuals are occasionally seen traveling and fighting in trios, creating scenarios where hunters must track and evade multiple threats simultaneously. In territorial clashes, it has been witnessed engaging in a violent Turf War with Blangonga, where its flight capabilities clash with Blangonga’s raw brute force in a savage confrontation of aerial agility versus primal strength. Despite its aerial movement, Hirabami is not classified as an Elder Dragon, though its ability to levitate without wings blurs that line. The inside of its mouth is a key visual cue during attacks—it glows intensely before launching its ice projectile. Its tail is the only part in the series to allow five individual breaks, which progressively strip away its ability to hang or balance while in the air. Like Narwa and Ibushi, Hirabami's movement is partially influenced by weather and wind, making it more active in breezy environments or near high cliffs. In trios, individual Hirabami often mirror one another’s movements, creating complex and layered patterns that challenge a hunter’s awareness and positioning.
