16-year-old charged with killing his barber in Indianapolis is now a suspect in another murder.

A judge ordered a 16-year-old Dominique Sherman held without bond at his initial court hearing on charges that he murdered his barber. Sherman wore a green jail uniform into court Friday morning, signifying he is a juvenile. But Sherman will be tried as an adult. Marion Superior Court Judge Cynthia Oetjen read the charges against Sherman, including murder, robbery, and dangerous possession of a gun by a child. Sherman is accused of shooting and killing 35-year-old Stephen Coach. Sherman lived at the City View Apartments at 38th and Meridian streets. Coach was a barber and traveled to his clients. He had cut Sherman's hair in the lounge on the top floor of the apartment building. Court records say that on Nov. 8, 2025, Coach came to City View Apartments to trade a watch for a gun from Sherman. Just a block away, at 39th and Pennsylvania streets, Sherman allegedly shot Coach, then ran back to City View and stole Coach’s car. Sherman asked for and received a public defender.
