As conflicts and global instability place increasing pressure on the rule of law, accountability remains indispensable to preventing impunity and safeguarding peace, justice and development. Strengthening international criminal justice requires not only resilient institutions, but also a new generation of highly specialised legal professionals. In this video, we speak with Nazhat Shameem Khan, Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), who reflects on the central role of young generations in advancing accountability in times of conflict. The discussion underscores the specificity of preparation required in international criminal law — a field that demands rigorous legal expertise, a deep understanding of complex accountability frameworks, and the capacity to operate in politically and operationally challenging environments. Nazhat Shameem Khan highlights how specialised legal education equips young professionals with the analytical skills, ethical grounding and practical awareness necessary to engage effectively with international criminal justice. The conversation took place in the framework of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Transnational Crime and Justice (2025–2026), held at the United Nations Campus in Turin (Italy). Watch the video to explore why investing in advanced legal education is investing in accountability, justice and sustainable peace.
