Prime Minister Scott Morrison says WestConnex has been a “city shaping and city changing” infrastructure in Sydney. Mr Morrison and the NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet appeared at the WestConnex Motorway Control Centre to deliver a media conference about the project. The federal government put $1.5 billion into the infrastructure project when it was at stages one and two of the process, and some $2 billion in concessional loans. The state government is now pressing ahead with stage 3 of the project, which is taking place at the M4-M5 link tunnels and will be building a twin tunnel of approximately 7.5 kilometres. “I can tell you, the Liberal governments at a federal and state level have always believed strongly in this project and we’ve pressed ahead for many, many years because we know how big a change it is going to mean for people living in Australia’s biggest city,” Mr Morrison said. “It means 40 minutes off your journey from Paramatta to the airport; I mean that’s massive; it means 10,000 trucks coming off the roads ... which means those roads are safer.”
