Asians make up over 50% of the world’s population, yet account for only 2–6% of participants in major genome projects. This study, underpinned by GenomeAsia100K, aims to change that—and serves as a Rosetta Stone for human population genetics. Using high-resolution genome sequencing, scientists (including SCELSE's first authors - Dr Elena Gusareva & Dr Amit Gourav Ghosh, Prof Stephan Schuster and Assoc Prof Kim Hie Lim) uncovered unprecedented genetic diversity across Asia and traced the longest known prehistoric migration: over 20,000 km from North Asia to South America.
