Is it the same joy that we experience when, for example, we get into a warm comfy bed, look at a flower or have a conversation with a friend? And if the nature of being is always the same, why do these joyful experiences often seem so different? Rupert says: ‘Each time you experience joy, you are tasting your being. The event or object seems to precipitate this experience of joy. Something about the event has the power to interrupt the flow of experience, and in that interruption, the mind stops, your being shines and you taste the shining of being as the experience of joy. ‘This joy is then coloured by your human experience, which is why it has different flavours: sometimes quiet, sometimes touching, sometimes making you laugh or cry – but it’s always the same joy filtering into your human experience.’ *This video is from one of Rupert’s in-person retreats at Mandali, 5–12 April 2025.
