In this episode of Chris Without Borders, I start my walk at BallinStadt, Hamburg’s historic emigration halls where millions once began their journey to the New World. It’s a quiet place today, but the ghosts of hopeful departures still linger in the air. From there, I follow the Klütjenfelder Hauptdeich, tracing the southern edge of Hamburg’s port area. It’s a stretch where the city thins out, the traffic fades, and the industrial past meets the present. As I continue along the Veringkanal, Wilhelmsburg begins to unfold — a district long overlooked, now reinventing itself. The walk ends at the striking architecture of the IBA Hamburg buildings, part of the city’s boldest urban redevelopment projects, right next to Wilhelmsburg S-Bahn station. 💡 Along the way, I’ll share thoughts on Hamburg’s emigration history, port life, and the massive transformation Wilhelmsburg has seen in recent years — thanks to initiatives like the IBA (Internationale Bauausstellung). 00:19 BallinStadt Emigration Museum 04:44 Klütjenfelder Hauptdeich 08:14 Old School Wilhelmsburg 11:46 Modern Wilhelmsburg 🎟️ This isn’t a city tour in the usual sense — it's more of a long conversation with the landscape. Subscribe for more unhurried walks and unexpected stories — in Hamburg and soon beyond. New episodes every weekend. 🧰 Gear I used: GoPro Hero13 Black with Media Mod iPhone 16 Pro DJI Osmo Mobile SE Gimbal Sennheiser MKE 200 mic BOYA Mini lav mic … and a few nerdy accessories like a chest rig and selfie stick. #HamburgWalk #BallinStadt #Wilhelmsburg #IBA #UrbanTransformation #ChrisWithoutBorders #germanytravelguide Map courtesy of Google
