In this video, I’m in the cockpit of an EA-18G Growler aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), somewhere in the Pacific Ocean near Guam in 2017. We're getting ready for a MAX power Case I launch off catapult 3, during a day training sortie. When you’re on an aircraft carrier, the ship always points into the wind for flight operations. That means the ship’s often heading straight into whatever weather is coming at us. On this day, the weather decided to throw us a curveball. At the 6:00 mark, the rain starts coming down, and the winds pick up. By 7:00, things get real—the rain is so strong that I can barely see beyond the bow. But the deck crew? They don't miss a beat. Despite the getting soaked, they keep prepping the catapults for launch. In the Fleet, flight OPS don't stop, no matter what the weather’s doing. Luckily, this was just an isolated squall and we passed through it quickly, but it’s a reminder of what life on a carrier can be like. Just another day at sea.
