Your Achilles tendon is of paramount importance to foot and ankle function and normal ambulation. So when you injure it, it literally is a huge pain in the foot...no punt intended! The Achilles tendon is found just behind and above the back of your heel. It joins your heel bone (calcaneus) to your calf muscle complex. The function of your Achilles tendon is to help in flexing your foot downwards at the ankle. Achilles tendinopathy (old school terminology is Achilles Tendinitis) is a condition that causes considerable pain and inflammation to a portion of the tendon. Repeated micro stresses create damage within the tendon and this results in stiffness. Over time, the micro stresses lead to a thickening of the tendon (scarring) and results in continuous pain when ambulating. Some therapy options may include: rest, ice, heat, contrast therapy, progressive loading, ankle mobility, flexibility/stretching exercises, anti-inflammatories, physical modalities, orthotics, heel raises, activity modification, shoe changes, shockwave therapy, dry needling. Achilles tendinopathy usually takes about 3-6 months to heal after you have started treatment. But more severe degeneration or tears can take up to a year. www.myfootdr.com.sg https://www.myfootdr.com.sg/shop/ https://www.myfootdr.com.sg/product/k...
