It's been a while since I've uploaded one of these, so here we go. This is Jason Jarrett's No. 98 C.H.I. Overhead Doors Ford Taurus, fielded by Robert Yates Racing in a one-off entry for the 2003 EA Sports 500 at Talladega. This was the first time RYR had fielded a third entry, and it was piloted by NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett's son Jason. This was Jason's first ever NASCAR Cup race, and it didn't go too well. While Jarrett and Sadler did decent in the race (well, at least for Sadler, until he tumbled down the backstretch), Jason was a non-factor for most of the day. He finished the race in 29th, four laps down, in what would otherwise be a footnote in NASCAR history. Jason would only make one more start in the Cup Series after this race, at the 2004 Pennsylvania 500 for SCORE Motorsports. But there's a little more to this car, as this entry is what allowed Kasey Kahne to move over to Evernham. If you've played NASCAR Thunder 2003, you probably remember this 98 being driven by Kahne as part of that game's Busch Series roster. Kahne was a Ford development driver at the time, but there weren't too many open Ford seats in the Cup Series. Kahne was in talks with Bill Elliott about taking over his seat in the No. 9 Dodge once Elliott retired from full-time racing at the end of 2003, but Kahne was unable to do so while under contract with Ford. That's where this car comes in. Apparently, the way Kahne's contract with Ford was worded, the next open Ford Cup ride would be Kahne's. And when the brand-new No. 98 entry went to Jason Jarrett instead, Kahne used this to argue that Ford had broken their contract, allowing him to move over to Evernham. Smart move, and I'd say it paid off quite well for Kasey. Just like with the Ted Musgrave and Morgan Shepherd cars, I painted this one. It wasn't too bad. The only real roadblock I stumbled across was making the logo for the sponsor itself: C.H.I. Overhead Doors. The versions that are on the cars aren't quite the same as any of the ones you'd normally find on Google, so I had to do a little work to make them just about right. I thought the Apex Electric Company logo would be my stumbling block, but I managed to find that in an archive of Team SBR's stuff. Other than that, everything was relatively straightforward. I'm pretty sure I grabbed Dale Jarrett's signature from the "Dale Jarrett Ford" sticker from, of all things, an eBay listing for a license plate, which I thought was mildly amusing for some reason. Nice little "Rise of the Field Fillers" cameo, eh? I figured it was only appropriate to have a little fun, especially since all of the fantasy drivers we're overwriting for this mod aren't quite so fantastical anymore. And, yes, Brock is aware of that. 3:52 Sprague, go back to the Truck Series. Please. As you'd probably expect, I made Jason Jarrett allies with his teammates Elliott Sadler (80) and Dale Jarrett (94). Since Dale is Jason's father in addition to his teammate, I thought I would make their relationship a little stronger. I tried to get Dale up to the front in the closing laps to get the father and son duo a 1-2 finish, but apparently that block I made at 7:59 upset Dale's car a lot more than I expected it to, and he fell back to 8th. Whoops.
