I'll also touch on other similar roles such as Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), Advanced Nursing Practitioners (ANPs), and Anesthesia Associates (AAs), though I'll refer to all as Physician Associates for simplicity. The PA role originated in the US in the 1960s and was introduced to the UK in 2003. Despite some resistance, the title changed from Physician Assistant to Physician Associate in 2012.
