Every pilot dreams of a journey like flying from Alaska, through Canada, and to the lower 48. Or, the other way around. One way or another, this aviation adventure is well under way and our Cessna 172 is holding up well. After conquering a huge cross country flight the day before, now we're in for more of the same. But now, we're basically out of the mountains. We'll still have some high density altitude flying to do, but not much mountain flying. Today, our plan is conquer and fly through Alberta, Canada. We're in the foothills of the mountains at Grand Prairie, and after a lot of rest, we're charged and ready to go. The biggest challenge of the day would simply be to see how much flying we can fit into the smaller window of winter time. But the further south we get, the more favorable the weather. First stop is Rocky Mountain House, a great little airport. We don't spend much time there, but we do get fuel. Afterwards we fly past Calgary and we're able to finally pickup Flight Following. It's great to have ATC once again. Now we stop in Lethbridge, where we prepare to clear Customs in Great Falls by filing our eAPIS. It's our last stop in Canada, and bittersweet. Finally making a run for the border, it actually feels good to fly in the United States again. Hard to explain, but it's just nice to be back. Ends up being the perfect flying day, and we couldn't be more happy with the performance of our little Cessna 172. The big picture is we're flying Alaska to Oshkosh (OSH) to get it upgraded to the 21st Century. We're going through avionics upgrades that will really make this thing a modern machine.
