The proper way to throw a Hook punch with your rear hand with Shihan Ron Schulmann of Tiger Schulmann’s Martial Arts. The first step to learning how to throw the Hook is making a correct fist. Start by curling your pointer finger in first then the other fingers then wrap the thumb around make sure this is flat. We're going to be hitting with our first two knuckles, not the last two so turn your fist out a little bit and keep your wrist straight. The Hook is a really powerful punch! You can use it to target the ribs or the head. I Important in any fighting technique is your stance. A good stance, means you are balanced. Make sure your feet are not in a direct line and they are spread apart about shoulder width. Stand a little bit sideways and your weight is evenly distributed between your front and back foot. You always want to maintain your balance when you're throwing a Hook punch. Never throw the hook punch too hard. It can cause you to fall out of position. Start your punch with the rear hand, turning your hips, and making contact. Keep your elbow in front. As your hips turn the heel will naturally raise up as you shift your weight from the back to the front. For the hook, the power is coming from your hips and your legs as much if not more than from your upper body.
