What is there to do around Lake Toya? How many days should I stay? Here is a journey of our 2 night stay at The Lake View Toya Nonokaze Resort. On the first day, we took a train from Noboribetsu and arrived at the Toya Station around 11:00am. From Toya station, we took a 10 minute taxi ride to our accommodation at The Lake View Toya Nonokaze Resort. We walked along the footpath to Wakasaimo to eat their topselling treat and cool off with the potato ice cream. After our break, we continued our walk to the Mt. Usu Eruption Memorial Park. We then returned to the hotel to check into our room, rested and enjoyed the view before dinner. After the buffet dinner we decided on watching the fireworks from our room. The second day started with a breakfast buffet, and I really enjoyed the Hokkaido cheese omelet and fresh pressed apple juice. We decided during breakfast to head to the Mt. Usu ropeway and while riding in the taxi, our drive suggested that 1 hour 45 minutes would most likely be enough. He then offered to pick us up to take us back to our hotel. At the top of the Mt. Usu Ropeway is a viewing terrace and small café to enjoy a refreshment. The Crater Plain Observatory is about a 7 minute walk from the Terrace. You may continue the walk on the Usu Somma Mountain Promenade, which is 1.1km to the Usu Somma Mountain Observatory. After our time at the Mt. Usu Ropeway, we caught the taxi back to our stay and agreed to take the castle looking ferry called, Espoir, to Nakajima for lunch. On the ferry, shrimp chips are available for purchase, for yourself and to share with the seagulls. Once landing on Nakajima, you can eat at the café and choose to hike a 7.6km loop. Back at the hotel, there are public baths including an open air one on the top floor. There are nightly fireworks displayed from late April to the end of October. Along Lake Toya are pedal and motorized swan looking boats for rent. Look at sculptures along the shore of Lake Toya and visit the parks Take a cruise on the lake and visit Nakajima Rent a pedal or motorized boat Take the Mt. Usu Ropeway Silo Observatory Watch the nightly fireworks Eat at Wakasaimo You could do quite a few of these during an overnight stay. However, I feel it is better to do this leisurely over 2 or even 3 days. For me, 2 days seemed just right. 00:00 intro 00:19 Lake Toya footpath 02:21 Wakasaimo 04:23 The Lake View Toya Nonokaze Resort 06:37 Day 2 breakfast buffet 07:30 Mt.
