Why do people say Nagoya is boring? On our continued quest to hunt sakura, Nagoya was the next destination. The plan on experiencing the the views of Mt. Fuji by ferry crossing Suruga Bay was derailed. The ferry was out of commission for maintenance. The unexpected curveball left us scrambling for shinkansen tickets to Nagoya. Fortunately, our hotel, the Nagoya Marriott Associa, is conveniently located right inside the station. After checking in, no time was wasted to visit Nagoya Castle, about 15 minutes by taxi. Since we were expecting to see the sakura during this time of the year, we asked the concierge where we might see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. It was mentioned that the streets around the cultural path Futaba Museum were lined with the trees full of the flowers. We decided to head there and while there stopped at the Futaba Palace (Museum). Nearby is Osu Shopping Street where we wanted to have lunch. Along the way we stopped Osu Temple and had a glimpse of the Karakuri mechanical clock. As our hunger grew, we stepped inside Konparu and ate their well known ebi sando (sandwich), made with egg, cabbage, shrimp tempura, and a savory sauce. Outside the shopping area is Miwa Shrine with its many rabbit statues. A popular place to visit and pray. Since we had evening plans to visit Nabana no Sato illumination, we went back to Nagoya Marriott for some rest. On the third day, we went to Toyota Museum. I really was not to keen on going, but what a surprise! The history behind the company, the live demonstrations, and interactive displays; one could spend hours there... just like we did. We spent the afternoon at the Aeon Mall and then wanted to see the lights of Oasis 21, where we ate a popular Nagoya dish, miso katsu. A dish featuring deep fried pork cutlet topped generously with a savory rich miso sauce. Maybe Nagoya was once considered a boring destination. My experience seemed otherwise. With museums to learn about the culture and history, the castle and the fairs on its grounds, to the dazzling lights at night. Nagoya has lots to offer and seems to be ever developing. 00:00 Intro 00:15 Shuzenji to Nagoya 02:45 Nagoya Marriott Associa 05:42 Nagoya Castle 07:51 Day 2 breakfast and sakura 09:13 Futaba Museum 11:20 Osu Kannon and Osu Shopping Street 14:42 Nabana no Sato 18:06 Day 3 Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry & Technology 22:12 Oasis 21 24:01 Final Thoughts
