The talk focuses on updates to diagnosis, imaging, treatment, and long-term care—essential for pediatricians, cardiologists, and caregivers managing this complex condition. Dr. Choueitar explains how echocardiography remains central in diagnosis, with a strong emphasis on not delaying treatment while awaiting imaging. High-risk patients, especially infants under six months and those with aneurysms, require more frequent follow-up and advanced imaging like CT or MRI tailored to their risk level. Medication updates include continued use of low-dose aspirin, dual antiplatelet therapy for persistent aneurysms, and the introduction of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) as a new option for patients with giant aneurysms. Stress testing is now advised even for small aneurysms, and a new, detailed pathway for managing Acute Coronary Syndrome in Kawasaki patients has been introduced. The importance of structured transition to adult care is also underscored for patients with lasting complications.
