Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR): PMR is an empirically (scientific) researched stress, anxiety and sleep management strategy. It involves a step-by-step tensing and then releasing of your muscle groups. I’ve also found this as a really beneficial strategy for anyone who has gone through a distressing or traumatic event. Try practicing this daily to build it into your toolbox of resources to manage emotions and stress. The thing I love about this exercise, is after a bit of practice, you can adapt it to fit your needs. For example, if you’re at work and in a stressful meeting, you can tense and release tension in your legs with likely no one noticing what you’re doing to regulate.
