Explore the Goshko prairie mansion built in 1915. 4 sons and 5 daughters were raised in this massive house built from large concrete blocks. Many friends and relatives were treated by Mary Goshko's homemade cooking. New families to the area were also guests of the Goshko's over the winter months until their homes were built. The house is "ROCK SOLID" literally. The foundation is strong and the interior looks like it could easily be swept, painted and moved into. The main reason why these places are not renovated or lived in today is because of the cost. Most places don't have running water or sewers. The cost of upkeep and trenching in new lines has become too great for the family to maintain. Children grow up, move away, start their own families and need tend to their own property. The land is sold and either the buildings are left to fall in on themselves or are kept as a sentimental reminder of the past. Big thanks to Joe Cowaniec for the find and help with its current owner and history.
