The United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated US$4 million to Jamaica to bolster life-saving humanitarian efforts following the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Melissa in late 2025. This critical funding, coordinated through the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and the Government of Jamaica, is being deployed via four key UN agencies to address urgent needs across the most affected southern and western parishes: World Food Programme (WFP): Providing multi-purpose cash-based assistance to approximately 10,756 beneficiaries, empowering households to meet immediate food and essential requirements. UNICEF: Leading the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) response to reach over 220,000 people through the restoration of water supply systems and the distribution of hygiene and sanitation supplies. International Organization for Migration (IOM): Delivering emergency shelter and non-food items (NFIs) to 8,800 of the most vulnerable individuals, with a focus on "last-mile" delivery to families whose homes were destroyed. PAHO/WHO: Ensuring the continuity of essential healthcare services for 600,000 people, including the provision of medical supplies, urgent repairs to health facilities, and the deployment of mental health and psychosocial support. This unified response is designed to bridge the gap between immediate relief and long-term recovery, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations receive targeted, data-driven support during this national emergency.
