Helicopter Dropped Me Alone for 7 Days- Then the Storm Hit

I was dropped off by helicopter in the remote wilderness of Canada with my dog Ollie… and I wouldn’t be picked up for seven days. What started as a peaceful backcountry adventure quickly turned into one of the most intense trips I’ve ever experienced. Within the first night, rain moved in and didn’t let up. The next morning, I stepped out onto the ice and discovered something unexpected—lake trout were cruising right in front of camp. Over the next seven days, we fished, explored, and enjoy delicious freshly caught meals. I caught multiple lake trout, cooked meals over the fire, and experienced some of the most beautiful moments the wilderness has to offer—from quiet sunsets to clear, star-filled skies. But as the trip went on, conditions changed fast. Storms rolled through the area, including a brutal ice storm that turned the forest into a dangerous place to be. Trees began cracking and falling around camp, forcing me to relocate and take shelter just to stay safe. Through it all, we pushed forward—cutting firewood, adapting to the conditions, and making the most of every moment out there. After seven days alone in the wilderness, the helicopter finally returned on a calm, snowy morning to bring us home. This is that story.
